If Sony and ampex weren't competing the VCR would not be like it is today; although, we don't use the VCR it still has had an effect on Technology we use today like the DVD. Kids today can't image even a week without their video games or movies. This was a sign of the 1970 and 80s because everyone was buying a VCR. People were now able to record commercials to see something they missed or want to show someone else.
