Since color TVs were starting to sell in the 1950s VCR would have a boast in interest for people. The first successfully commercialized VCR or videocassette recorder in 1956 was made by Ampex, it was called the Ampex VRX- 1000. It used 2 inch thick tapes, but it was very expensive so few people had VCR's at this time. Also it could only recorded 20 minutes of video per tape. Then sonny came out with the VC-2000 in 1965. This VCR was ready to go allowing people to bring VCR into their homes. With half-inch tapes. But still wasn’t good enough for the general public.

If Sony and ampex weren't competing the VCR would not be like it is today; although, we don't use the VCR it still has had an effect on Technology we use today like the DVD. Kids today can't image even a week without their video games or movies. This was a sign of the 1970 and 80s because everyone was buying a VCR. People were now able to record commercials to see something they missed or want to show someone else.
1970s Beta max Vs VHS

People wanted a VCR because they would be able to record a show while watching another. Sony corporations made the beta max in 1975. This was also a more advance VCR, because before VCRs had unclear pictures. This VCR had a less expensive design letting more people would enjoy other worlds. But when the VHS came out in 1977 it was just like the beta max except it was able to hold 5 to even 9 hours, as where the Beta max could still only record an hour long video. Now people wouldn't have to deal with one recording per tape. Mass production of the VCR had begun.

Today

Today VCRs are out dated. With the new technology of things like DVDs and since tapes aren’t made anymore. Movies and game rental places like blockbuster don’t have tapes for people to rent form local stores. Unlike VCRs DVDs can be recorded onto instead of just watching what is on them already.
